“Review and approve” is the design, not a fallback

Human-in-the-loop isn’t a safety net you remove once the model is trusted. The approval step is the design, and it matters most where mistakes are expensive.

When people picture automation, they picture the human gone. The machine takes the task, the person is removed, headcount drops. So human-in-the-loop gets treated as a compromise: a safety net you bolt on because the model is not quite trusted yet, to be removed once it is.

We build it the other way round. The review step is the design, not the fallback.

What changes is the job, not the headcount

Take order intake. Orders arrive by email, and someone retypes each one into the ERP, slow, dull, and quietly error-prone. The automated version does not delete the person. It changes their job. AI reads the order and extracts the fields. Rules decide what is allowed through and what gets flagged. The person reviews and approves.

The work goes from typing for minutes to checking for seconds. Across these intake projects that has landed at roughly 85-90% less manual entry, not because a human was removed, but because the human stopped doing the part a machine does better and kept the part they do better.

A two-second human approval is not friction. It is the cheapest insurance you will ever buy.

It matters most where errors are expensive

Full autonomy is a fine trade when an error costs nothing. When an error costs a wrong shipment or a wrong invoice, the approval step earns its place. Keep the speed. Keep the accountability. Drop only the typing.

The point was never to remove the person. It was to stop wasting them.

Common questions
  • Is human-in-the-loop just a temporary safety measure?

No - it’s the intended design. The point is to remove the typing, not the person’s judgment.

  • Where does human review matter most?

Where a mistake is expensive - a wrong shipment or invoice. There, a two-second approval is cheap insurance.

  • How much manual work does this remove?

The work shifts from typing every item to checking the few that need judgment; clean items pass automatically.

Keep the speed. Keep the approval.
